Unsung Black Heroes acknowledges and celebrates our community’s overlooked heroes: individuals who go about their daily lives working hard to help and empower our society, whilst barely receiving any credit.

Created by the Chelsea Theatre and organised by Matt Uberoi as Community Project Manager, the project was funded by a grant awarded by Kensington & Chelsea Council as part of the borough’s new Culture Plan marking Black History Month - championing the culture and achievements of Black British, African and Caribbean people.
The project centres on photographing black unsung heroes from the Worlds End Estate in Chelsea. All heroes were nominated by the local community for their outstanding contribution to society.
Local teachers, nurses and community workers rightfully deserve their place next to important historical black figures such as Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks because their work is just as important to our community.
